Why Fall Sucks

I either spend three or four weekends, 6-8 hours each raking the leaves, or I pay $320 for a landscaping crew to do this in 1 hour

For scale, the posts around the garden are close to 7′ tall, and the garden is about 8 feet deep.

Off Season – Week 2 Back at it

So after a weekend of sloth and a Monday feeling like I was sick, I got back to the P90X program with Legs & Back. Legs are burning right now, but in a good way. However I suck at pull ups. I always have, and likely, always will. C’est la vie! I’ll keep trying.

I totally underestimated how hard this workout was going to be. This week I’ll finish off the FIRST week workout, then hit it straight through the following week. Note to self: You HAVE to get up in the morning and do these workouts. After a full day at work, there isn’t enough energy left in the tank to get down and do the workout.

I feel so much better for completing this stuff in the AM.

Back at it indeed!

Push yourself and you’ll go far

When you stop doubting yourself.
When you stop listening to the voices of reason..
When you stop saying “Why”
And start saying “Why the F**K not”

Off Season – Day 6

Nada, zilch, nufin, bupkus.
That’s what I did yesterday.  It was a dark, drizzly, dreary day.  I had some early motivation and worked on the bikes and mounted the new pull up bar, but after that I sat on my ass, and worked through the 2-month stack of magazines and catalogues on my end table.  I kept looking outside thinking I should get out and at least do a short run.  But there was just no motivation to do anything.

Weazer and I  talked about going out to a new place for lunch, but the weather was so dreary that we didn’t even want to get outside to get in the car.  It was that kind of day.

So I puttered around the house, read, played on the blog site (got the sitemeter code working again) and practiced sloth.

I wasn’t exactly unproductive.  I did get my wife’s friend’s computer repaired and reloaded.  It shouldn’t be so damn difficult or time consuming to load Windows Vista and then download all the patches.  However, it look over 6 hours, start to finish, and all it included was Vista Home Basic, Office 2007 and Avast.  Sheesh…

Off Season – Day 5

So yesterday, I blew off the workout.  Part of being in “off-season” means that I can skip a day and rest up if I think I need it, and not feel bad about missing a day.  Simply put, the day got away from me, plus I was still pretty sore from the previous days.  I called an audbile and relaxed.

I did the Yoga X this morning, and as Kona Shelley mentioned yesterday, it was tougher than I imagined.  I have very limited flexibility in my hips and hamstrings so many of the poses were extremely difficult.  I also think I need a longer warm-up prior to starting the workout.  I did the workout as soon as I got up this morning, so I was even more stiff than normal.  Lessons learned.

Tomorrow is Kenpo-X.  I’m thinking that I’ll try to do the workout early in the AM, then go out for a ride in the afternoon.  The weather is calling for rain, so the ride may be on the trainer, or I’ll skip the ride and go out for a quick run.

The off-season is about choices!

Off Season – Day 4

Slept in late this AM, ’cause I’m getting a bit crisp around the edges.  I’ll hit P90X Yoga this evening after work. I think it will be a GREAT workout to help me stretch and recover a bit.  I’m nursing some very sore body parts;

  • both calves and the bottoms of both feet (Plyometrics),
  • right hamstring (lifting and Plyometrics)
  • upper back (Monday’s workout).

It’s all good because the soreness means that I’m working hard and getting stronger.

Last night I was all set to go to CX practice race, but it was canceled again due to rain.  I think that this weekend I’ll do a longish road/cross ride that will allow me to practice the mount/dismount routine.  I’ll probably hit the dirt/mud roads around Tewksbury, then hit the trail and fields in the new Natirar park.  Fun!

Off Season – Day 3

– Shoulders & Arms
Not as tough today, but a solid workout.  I’m going to be sore later though!
Woke up feeling like I had been hit by a truck.  Yesterday’s workout was a killer.  Feet and back are pretty sore, and legs still dead from the weight workout on Friday.  Note to self:  Do Not Stop Weight Training. It hurts way too much when I start up again.

With any luck tonight will be CX practice.  It starts at 4:15 this afternoon, so I’ll need to shoot out of work a bit early.  Hopefully the rain will stay away and I can get my ride in.  I’m looking forward to riding, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to get my leg over the saddle for a running mount.
