I’ve just discovered “Are You Living It” website. Tons of great content on this site, but this recent post caught my eye…
You Living It? Live Your Passion Supports the Fight Against MS
As you know, the fight to cure MS is a cause close to my heart. Too many friends and co-workers have been stricken with this disease. Every year I participate in an MS-150 bike ride, I add another name to the list of people I know in whose honor I ride.
What I liked best about the AYLI post was the fact that that the CT Jamboree focuses their fund raising locally; Colorado residents fighting MS.
Live locally, ride locally, fight locally.. I like it…
For my next challenge:
hundred push ups
I’m pretty sure I can squeeze out 30 right now, but getting to 100 will be fun. Since IMLP is past, I can get back to the gym and rebuild some of the muscle volume I’ve lost.
We’ve seen turkeys in the yard before, but when I’ve tried to get some pictures, they’ve scattered. However, this morning these two birds seemed a LOT more interested in the goodies on the ground than a big old dummy like me firing off the camera.
Later in the morning, Fran finally got some great shots of a pair of red-tailed hawks that have taken up residency in the trees behind our house. We’ve heard them squeaking for the last several weeks, and have even seen them on the patio wall right near our back door, however we haven’t been able to get pictures until today.
Most of the time they like to fly down to the old garden, and hang out on the cross-beams. I think they like living around here because of all the little rodents we have running around out yard.
We think that there may be a nest high in one of the trees behind our house, but we haven’t found it yet. We’re going to contact the Trust next week to see what we can do to make our visitors more welcome
The funniest thing is Gripper (the dog) doesn’t seem the least bit interested in chasing the hawks. The turkeys, on the other hand, are a very different story.

If you have never seen the Randy Pausch’s “Last Lecture” do yourself a favor and Google for it. The full streaming video is about 1.5 hrs long. It will be the best 90 minutes you spend today.
If you could have any one — and only one — bike in the world, what would it be?
Hmm, probably some sort of custom, carbon fiber bike. I’m pretty much an off-the-rack fit guy, so most 54cm road bikes and most small-medium MTBs fit me fine
Do you already have that coveted dream bike? If so, is it everything you hoped it would be? If not, are you working toward getting it? If you’re not working toward getting it, why not?
I’m not sure I could settle on one, and only one dream bike. My Felt F2C team issue roadie is a great ride for hammering roads into submission. My Ibis Mojo levels the gnarliest of trails. My Surly Cross-Check is the ultimate commuter/general purpose bike. This coming fall, it will be converted into a CX racer too. I’ve got a Felt B2 tri-bike on delivery tomorrow, and I’m positive that this bike will carry me to new PRs in my next triathlons.
If you had to choose one — and only one — bike route to do every day for the rest of your life, what would it be, and why?
Easy.. it’s the ride I haven’t discovered yet.
What kind of sick person would force another person to ride one and only one bike ride to to do for the rest of her / his life?
The same person that lacks any imagination
Do you ride both road and mountain bikes? If both, which do you prefer and why? If only one or the other, why are you so narrowminded?
I ride both MTB and road bikes (although my MTB friends would debate that fact).
I prefer riding the road because I’m more comfortable hammering there. I’ve got no MTB skills, simply because I don’t ride MTB as much. One day I hope to be able to balance my MTB and road riding time…
Have you ever ridden a recumbent? If so, why? If not, describe the circumstances under which you would ride a recumbent.
Nope, never have and have no interest there..If my physiology gets to a point where I have to ride a recumbent, I’ll switch to my backup sport: racing historic cars (Lotus Super 7s)
Have you ever raced a triathlon? If so, have you also ever tried strangling yourself with dental floss?
Yes, and No. Stupid question
Suppose you were forced to either give up ice cream or bicycles for the rest of your life. Which would you give up, and why?
Ice cream. I prefer to drink gin…
What is a question you think this questionnaire should have asked, but has not? Also, answer it.
Clinchers vs tubulars (or tubes vs tubeless)
Clinchers for training, tubies for racing. Tubeless, but carry spare tubes
You’re riding your bike in the wilderness (if you’re a roadie, you’re on a road, but otherwise the surroundings are quite wilderness-like) and you see a bear. The bear sees you. What do you do?
Ride faster than my buddies, call for help when I get miles past the bear
