Year End Wrap

I was just looking over my numbers for 2008:

2008 (Ironman training year)
Swim: 171,628 yards (possibly a few more later this afternoon)
Bike: 2197.7 miles (I should ride to/from the pool to get an even 2200)
Run: 658.4 miles
Total: 359.5/hrs training

2007 (non-IM training year)
Swim: 55,700/yd
Bike: 568.2 miles (lots of MTB in 2007)
Run: 616.6 miles
Total: 148.2/hrs training

2008 Races:
Tri: 1 Oly (PR) 1 70.3 (almost melted) 1 IM (almost drowned on the bike/run),
Run: 1 1/2 Marathon (PR) 1 Marathon (PR)
Bike: 1 CX

New stuff: Certified as USAT official, officiated at 2 races.

So I’m feeling a bit better about my 2008 now.  The totals are all better than I had expected.  Not exactly what I hoped to have achieved for 2008, but a decent showing none-the-less.

USATF amends headphone rule: USATF – News

USATF now leaves the decision to allow headphones up to the race director. I wonder if USAT will have a similar rule change.

If they do amend the rule, there will be significant safety concerns about the bike segment. If they choose to let participants use headphones on the run, enforcement will be difficult for the bike.

The songs in my head…

Damn you Eddie Bauer…

This song has been in my head all day. It’s really not a bad thing. It could have been Abba..

“Valley Winter Song” – Fountains of Wayne

Hey Sweet Annie
Don’t take it so bad
You know the summer’s coming soon
Though the interstate is choking under salt and dirty sand
And it seems the sun is hiding from the moon

Your daddy told you
When you were a girl
The kind of things that come to those who wait
So give it a rest girl
Take a deep breath girl
And meet me at the Bay State tonight

And the snow is coming down
On our New England town
And it’s been falling all day long
What else is new
What could I do
I wrote a valley winter song
To play for you

And late December
Can drag a man down
You feel it deep in your gut
Short days and afternoons spent pottering around
In a dark house with the windows painted shut

Remember New York
Staring outside
As reckless winter made its way
From Staten Island to the Upper West Side
Whiting out our streets along the way

And the snow is coming down
On our New England town
And it’s been falling all day long
What else is new
What can I do
But sing this valley winter song
I wrote for you
